Diversity
English Language Learners come various cultures, religions, and places. Some students might have been born in the United States while others may have just moved here. There are also English Language Learners who have never went to school and come to American not only to learn English, but just to gain an education. Although, they are all grouped into one category, they are widely diverse. ELL students have different educational needs and goals. They learn at different rates and have varying levels of exposure to the English Language. Although, children tend to learn English easier than adults, it is still a difficult task to master. There are a lot of misconceptions when discussing ELL students and their cultural background. Many people unfortunately do not understand that all cultures are different, and what may be insufficient in our culture could be important in another. An ELL student coming to a new country is exposed to a new world.
